The Best thing in Indian Cricket today is, Sourav Ganguly also fondly known as Dada, is now the Biggest Thing in Indian Cricket. Back in 1993, well, I was still on my momma’s womb, a lean and thin young gun proving his worth in the domestics, made his mark as the next big thing. The Young Gun, soon made his dream test debut, at a dream venue of Lords. Destiny was such that in a matter of years he was the main thing of Indian Cricket, the Captain. As dirty deeds ran deep in those days, he had to not only revive the Game but also restore the faith back to people, which he marvellously did. Since 2013, a similar situation had grasped Indian Board and then whom did we look for? The same, ‘Reviver of the Past’ the personification of Dadagiri, Sourav Ganguly, ‘Dada’. On 23 October, it will be official that Dada is the Biggest thing in Indian Cricket or should I rephrase, the Biggest Thing in the World of Cricket, i.e, the President of the BCCI.
On the evening of the 13th of October, a high-level meeting was set up in Mumbai. Almost all of the whos who of Indian Cricket administrators from all the corners of the country were present. Till late night the meeting went on as rumours of Brijesh Patel becoming the next President started surfacing the web. Passed a few minutes and the tides had completely changed, the name of Sourav Ganguly as the would-be President of BCCI started emerging. Soon it was confirmed too.
On 14 October, Monday, Sourav Ganguly submitted his nomination and then appeared for a press interview, citing his vision and promising to bring back normalcy to Indian Cricket.
Dada mentioned, restructuring the first-class Cricket and taking good care of the players is his first priority. Dada continued terming these 2-3 years as a state of Emergency for the Board. Expressing his dissatisfaction on many issues mainly the Conflict of Interest issue which recently made huge roar involving Greats like Rahul Dravid, Kapil Dev and Anil Kumble, he assured to have a deep thought on the issue.
The Prince of Kolkata always expressed his contradiction with the Apex court set up, Committee of Administrators stating that they had never paid heed to his suggestions. The fact is well known to all, the CoA always played safe. Well but now is the time for some bold calls, the Dadagiri should commence, just like it did 19 years ago in 2000.
Sourav Ganguly, on being asked if he had any aspirations for the role, replied “I had never expressed my aspirations for this post. I never spoke to anyone. Until 10:30 in the night yesterday, I was not aware of this.”
Dada believes, “it is a big responsibility to manage the board of a highly-impressive Indian team.”Indian cricket administration has to be the best in the world. We have to get the administration in order.” Sourav Ganguly, the next BCCI President, signed off.
Today, on 15th of October, Sourav Ganguly, Dada tweeted on twitter expressing his happiness and thankfulness to the BCCI. Dada tweeted a photo of himself with his new team stating, The new team at. @bcci, hopefully, we can work well .. Anurag Thakur thank you for seeing this through @ianuragthakur.
Jay Shah, son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, is set to be the new Secretary of the BCCI while Arun Dhumal, who is Anurag Thakur’s brother, is going to be the board’s new Treasurer. Jayesh George will be the new Joint Secretary and Mahim Verma will be the Vice President.
The news is auspicious for all the Cricket fans of the country. Personally I am gushing, imagining the fact that two of the most daring, influential and powerful personalities of Indian Cricket will pair up in leading the Indian Cricket forward. But thanks to the fact, that one will lead it on the field while other, off the field. But again, who will be the one to have the strongest hold on the calls of the Game ? Virat or Dada ? Well time will let us know. As far as Indian Cricket is concerned the Captain of the team had always been the Pied Piper of Indian Cricket, but here, the other personality which exists cannot be ignored, as he is well known for his history of Dadagiri.
